An Unexpected Development…

30 07 2008

So I sign into the blogosphere thinking that SunRider’s Landing kind of needs an update, and I happen to find this. Woah, what an unexpected development. But ultimately, I do believe Sixten’s made the right decision to scrap Heart’s Content, atleast for now. :3 I’m just speaking through my experience making visual novels and assorted other games, but generally what I’ve found is that small projects like the new Miao Doujin tend to be completed more frequently then big projects like Heart’s Content. Also, it’s quite refreshing to see Sixten working for himself now. :3 I’ve been pretty much waiting for the moment when he’d burst free from everyone else’s control and just work for himself. He’s quite an amazing artist, better than anything I could be, so he shouldn’t let critics slow him down. The fact is, it’s better to have a flawed product than no product at all, and if he keeps slowing himself to correct minute details, it’ll inevitably just slow him down too much. I say Sixten should work independently on all future projects from now on. He certainly has the art skills to do it, and I thought the first installment of the Miao Doujin was wonderfully written. So I say ganbatte, Sixten!

Now the only problem is that I kind of wanted to make Heart’s Content fanart some time in the future since it’s always been Sixten who’s making all the fanart for me. ._.; Drats, I guess I’ll have to wait until mechas get involved in the Miao Diary before I can make any good art for him now. (This is a hint for Sixten: Loli naturally goes well with mecha.)

Oh yeah, I guess this kind of got me derailed from my original purpose of coming here to my blog. It looks like a certain group of individuals (>_>) have inadvertently caused me to start a new impromptu project, with a working title of Real Life: A Bishoujo Tragedy. Hopefully I’ll be finished with it by next week and I’ll be able to return to SunRiders soon.

Of course, a new project means that I need to start sketching like mad and squeeze out some new art. Actually, I was quite taken by what happened. I’m happy to say that I’ve once again made another leap in terms of quality. Here are some comparison shots over the course of this year…

Pre-Raidaa no Asahi
No… You seriously do not want to see this… Truly some hideous art here. *covers his face in shame*

Deals 50 points of retina damage

Raidaa no Asahi
Okay… So it’s not much better, but atleast it’s digitally coloured now…

Improvement...?

Beginning of SunRiders
Quite a large leap in terms of the quality. I finally bought a tablet and it came with Photoshop Elements. Not to mention drawing all the art for Raidaa no Asahi finally improved my skills and allowed me to finally draw some watchable art…

Watchable now

And now…
Thanks to lots of practice, hours of drawing, and a ton of luck, (And I mean A FREAKING nice BOATLOAD of luck, I definitely won’t be able to reproduce this quality again in some time… -_-;) I finally managed to make something that’s actually decent.

Luck!

Hey, that’s actually pretty nice improvement, considering that all this happened over the span of a year. :o Hopefully things will keep going at this pace and I won’t have to have ugly characters in all my games any more. XD

Now, the only problem is that I definitely have to scrap all the art I’ve drawn so far for SunRiders and redraw everything now. There’s no way I’m going to use the old graphics when I know I can make much better ones. It’ll take a long time, but I think it’ll definitely be worth it in the end.

Also, I’m really hoping to release Real Life: Bishoujo Tragedy very quickly. It’ll definitely be a challenge, since it’ll run about the length of the original Real Life by Baka-Trio (30 minutes) with four main girls. I’ll drop some hints to what it’s about by saying that it’ll be a very personal project. :3 The art style (as you can see) will definitely be very moe, since that’s pretty much the only style that I’m capable of drawing, but as for the subject matter itself, it’ll probably be far less moe than my usual works, with a total absence of any city-leveling mechas. Keep your eyes opened for it next week. :3 If all goes out, you should be able to play it by then.

Sky Girls Season 2

6 07 2008

Haven’t I seen you somewhere before??

You, to the right! You look familiar somehow!

From the brief introduction, we can gather the following things:

  1. WORMS Aliens have mysteriously arrived and destroyed most of the Earth
  2. The Sky Girls Strike Witches must utilize cutting edge flying exoskeletons propeller boots to fight the said aliens.
  3. During battle, they must don their nanoslits neko, bunny, and puppy ears for reasons unexplained.
  4. In this universe, all girls have religious beliefs against wearing pants of any kind.

STRIKE WITCHES – the show where every shot is a pantsu shot.

I present the following screens from just the first battle.

13 pantsu shots in a single battle!? Are the makers of this anime trying to set a new world record? And I thought Sky Girls OVA had hilarious camera angles…

STRIKE WITCHES – The show where three Nazis, two Imperial Japanese girls, a Soviet, an American, a Brit, a Frenchy, an Italian, and a Finnish girl (what do they call people from Finland anyways?) must team up to fight aliens.

What we can conclude from this: Pantsu always offsets political incorrectness.

So from what I’ve gathered from the first episode, it pretty much looks like the second season of Sky Girls.

… …

… … …

Therefore, it goes without saying that I’ll be watching this religiously. :3

The Last 30 Days in 300 Words

3 07 2008

So what has Samu-kun been doing for the past 30 days? Well, for one, we know for certain that he has not been updating his blog. XD… Much has happened in the past 30 days, so I shall attempt to summarize them very quickly!

First, huzzah, small miracle has happened and Samu-kun has actually received a real life commission involving real life money. As you probably guessed, it wasn’t 2D related, since my 2D skills aren’t worth paying for. XD But it appears that my 3D works are good enough to be offered for pay, so I was hired by the aero-dynamics department of Iowa State University to make some concept models of their gadgets. Anyways, my brief stint as a commercial 3D artist over now, so my full attention is once again back on SunRiders.

Second, I’ve also been working as an editor for an online English class for elementary schoolers. Yes, you have truly never understood what it feels like to be editing the essays of 10 year olds all day and what effects it has on the brain. cannot proper english speak more no.

Third, I also wrote an essay on moe on the Lemmasoft forums. Yes, this is proof that Samu-kun can actually write good English if he wants to. (Yes, I am looking at you Sixten) It looks like M12-kun from the Defender of Moe Justice has already commented on it. His comments can be quickly summarized into the following:

  1. Moe is an idealized icon
  2. Please use easier vocabulary next time

In addition, it looks like Hime has also decided to write on it on her blog. And she didn’t say anything about the vocabulary. Huzzah for Hime.

And it looks like Samu-kun has hit his word limit. Bye bye everyone, tune in next time, more SunRiders incoming. :3
