The State of Things

9 03 2008

Woaahh… I can’t believe I actually got a 1000 blog views! I definitely wasn’t expecting this to happen when I first started this blog. Yosha! I’ll have to start posting more interesting stuff here. ^_^

Mm… On my projects side, A Mon Seul Desir is taking quite a bit longer than expected to write, mostly because I’m really trying hard to improve the quality of the writing over what you’ve already seen in Raidaa. I’m really trying to make the writing more poetic. I think the VN format is perfect for making poetry since it only displays
singe lines
at a time
like this!
Obviously, I won’t be writing the entire game in verses, since that would be overdoing it. But as a whole, I’m really trying to make best use of the rhythm, alterations, similes, parallelism, and such… The other problem is that the majority of the novel’s narrated in the first person by Maray and I’ve always found first person narratives to be more difficult to write than just straight up dialouge. But seeing how the narrative has already saved me from alot of CG pictures that would have otherwise needed to be drawn to portray the action, in the long term I think having the game told in the first person narrative should actually save me alot of time.

Oh, and I happened to come across the cutest animation of Tsukasa ever!

À Mon Seul Désir – Melodies of a Fairy Tale

5 03 2008

Mm… In case you haven’t already seen the topic at Lemmasoft, I’ve started working on a new project entitled À Mon Seul Désir – Melodies of a Fairy Tale. So what happened to The SunRiders? Well, it’s quite a long story. But I’ve decided to table the project for now and work on something a bit different. The story wasn’t really progressing in the direction I wanted… For starters, the rewritten script was set in modern day Japan and it felt more like an episode out of Lucky Star or Clannad than what we saw in Volume 1. I have no idea how the story ended up that way, but I’m going to take a break now from writing that. XD I think Raidaa no Asahi has enough cloture to stand as its own story for the time being.

So what exactly is my new project about? Well, we’re going to take a short break from science fiction and instead enter the realm of fantasy. But be rest assured, there will still be mechas and huge airships like in the Final Fantasy games. (well,  but not as good, obviously. ^_^;;) Right now, all my efforts have been centered around getting the script written. I’ve decided on creating a Visual Novel – Point and Click Adventure - Interactive Fiction - RPG hybrid this time around. You’ll navigate around the world like you would do in a point and click adventure game like in Myst, but all the dialogue and the story will be presented in VN format. And there’ll be RPG-styled battles to have some action too. I’m expecting the script to be alot bigger, since there’s alot more stuff that needs to be written. I’m hoping to create a pretty large fantasy world where the player is free to explore around in on his own. However, there’ll be a whole lot less CGs and the RPG gameplay segments will be alot simpler than what you’ve seen in Raidaa to save myself alot of work. ^_^

The game will take place in a fantasy world where a totalitarian dictatorship called the Sovereign has taken control of every aspect of life. All wealth and technologies have been reserved for only the nobility and the military while the people must live in poverty. The protagonist of the story, Maray Seule, was abandoned in a forest to die as an infant because her parents couldn’t afford to raise a girl. However, thanks to the charity of a kind wood cutter who happened to come across her, she was saved. She is now a young girl who lives with the wood cutter, whom she calls “Grandfather,” in the remote yet quiet village of Stone Haven. However, when it is discovered that she has the power to wield magic, something that is thought by most people as just being folklore and rubbish, the Sovereign sends in the military and their secretive assassin’s guild, The Third Section, to kill Maray. After their assassination attempt is foiled, Maray decides to leave her village so that they won’t come to harm’s way and escape the Sovereign. Along the way she meets new friends, such as Valian, an assassin who has defected from the Third Section, Abigail, a maid that was kicked out of her master’s house for being too clumsy, and Sharon, a strong minded but pacifistic shine maiden.

The story will focus mainly on Maray growing up, dealing with the fact that her powers make her special but at the same time lonely, and whether she uses her powers for her own ends or uses it to change the world. So expect a much more serious tone than Raidaa no Asahi. But don’t expect something dreary and gloomy all the way through either. XD Even though there won’t be any fanservice, there’ll still be alot of cute and funny things!
