Isnt it sad Misha?

The lack of Misha Path has left me in despair. But, that aside, Katawa Shoujo looks awesome.

To tell the truth, I think most western chick flicks use the relative moe concept. From what I know of it, they generally follow this pattern:

1. The destined couples meet for the first time
2. First date. It goes comically bad, but everything turns out okay.
3. The relationship begins. Happiness and flowers.
4. Suddenly, the relationship hits a snag and everything goes down hill
5. It looks like all is lost
6. But somehow, the relationship is saved
7. The couples reaffirm their love and live happily ever after.

(Which pretty much fits the graph of Kanon that I posted before)

Very cool analysis. Do you think moe can work in the context of more western-inspired works as well? If you do think so, and I know the term really isn't used in the western world, can you think of any examples?

On second thoughts:

"New Code Geass project announced! Wait until 2010 for more information!!
This is a reborn… It’s the day of a new birth. From today on, Geass shall reach a new level. In the near future, we will take you to a new Geass. You wished for this. You eagerly waited for this. You yearned for this! Did you all forget? Geass is like a desire. That’s right… If you wish for it, Geass will, again…"

Very interesting. I myself am not too big a fan of moe, I find it artificial, stereotypical, and boring, though cute and satisfying at times. I didn't understand it much until I read this, so thanks! I find it really interesting that it's possible to break that concept down like you just did. ^^

Ah. I tend toward a lot of guidelines (even when just drawing the body, to make sure the general shape and porportions line up). Plus, if you draw the full body in detail (like your last drawing, though probably minus the shading) no matter what clothing is going to go on top of it, then any sketch doubles as anatomy practice. It's kind of time consuming, though- less so for anime-bodies (stylized = lack of annoying complicated contours = win), but still.

Photo reference is also very useful (*senshistock on deviantart has a really good pose library).

Yes I do, but they're not really that detailed and amount to just a couple of rough lines that I later erase, just so that I know I'm drawing clothing where there should be clothing.

As someone who is still making that mistake... it's not so much that you stop making it as you get better at catching it before it's too late.

A question, if it's not too annoying: do you use guidelines (draw the body before the clothes, that sort of thing)? I can't see any, but, then, *my* scanner doesn't pick them up, so... I ask because they're hard to get used to if you're used to freehand, but they usually help overall.

Yes, you are exactly right about the last sketch. I nearly dived out my window when I realized that the proportions were horribly wrong, but I decided to just focus on the hand and call it good... Hopefully I won't make the same stupid mistake again.
